AIR CAKE and other summery occupations

ALBUM LAUNCH : 21 JUNE 2024

AIR CAKE and other summery occupations is nine frolicky stories about three intrepid children on the summer beaches of Southwest France, on the other side of the Atlantic from fabulous Maine. The joyous interactive reading of the stories is accompanied by the perfect percussion of Ivan Bamford and Eric Lewis’ inventive clarinet and cornet playing.

AIR CAKE will be released as an album on Ayelet Rose Gottlieb’s label Orchard of Pomegranates in June of 2024.

Here’s an excerpt of a story :

“So Leila went to the beach, and what did she find there?

Well, the elephants were already buck naked. They were lying on their very small towels and wondering why they couldn’t find bigger towels at the local supermarket.

The giraffes had given up all hope of suntan because

they were already the color of a brown berry.

The turtles, who lived there most of the year on their own,

were kind of wondering why suddenly these big lumbering giants of animals

were suddenly hanging out at the beach.

The baby shrimps that were so small and so baby, and so new, that they hadn’t even been colored in yet, they skittered quickly because wow, the shadows of those big lumbering elephants and very long necked giraffes were pretty scary.

The ones that really surprised Leila were the tigers.

Now tigers generally don’t swim, but these tigers were a special brand.

These tigers, instead of being born in the savannah of Africa,

were born in a mud pond in Croatia.

So they were really used to water – it was muddy water of course, and a little bit slimy,

but they liked water, they really liked water.

Leila felt perfectly at home. »
